Czech entrance exam preparation
Focused preparation for the national entrance exam in Czech language and literature. For pupils applying to selective grammar schools and to secondary schools.
Who this is for
Pupils in year 5 (eight-year grammar school), year 7 (six-year) and year 9 (four-year courses and vocational schools with a maturita).
It does not matter whether the child is top of the class in Czech or finds the subject hard. The entrance test is a different genre from a school test — it is timed, it has its own question types, and it can be trained for.
What the preparation covers
- Spelling — subject-verb agreement, capitalisation, i/y in endings
- Morphology and syntax — word classes, sentence elements, complex sentences
- Working with a text — comprehension, finding information, the main idea
- Literary terms to the extent the exam expects
- Time management — the commonest way to lose marks is not running out of knowledge but running out of time
How a lesson runs
A lesson is 50 minutes. It starts by going over what did not work last time, then a new topic, and finishes with practice questions in the exam format.
After every lesson the parent gets a note on what was covered and what to work on at home. Assignments and materials live in the app, so nothing gets lost in an exercise book.
When to start
The earlier the calmer — but even a few months of focused preparation can make a real difference. Regularity decides more than hours crammed at the last minute.

When is the best time to start preparing?
Ideally several months ahead, so topics can be worked through without stress. A shorter focused run still helps — regularity matters more than the total number of hours.
Do you prepare for selective grammar schools too?
Yes, for eight-year (from year 5) and six-year (from year 7) grammar schools, as well as four-year courses from year 9.
Where does the preparation take place?
In person in central Brno at Veselá 199/5, or online by video call.
